How Does the TTL Table-top 'flood & drain' system compare with the IWS 'continuous circulation' system?
The TTL Table-top 'flood & drain' system, also known as 'ebb and flow', is a much simpler system compared with IWS (Integrated Water System). For example, there is no need for a complicated 'brain bucket' to monitor water levels or nutrient flow. IWS systems are known to be complex to set up and maintain, however yields are generally thought to be very good.
With the TTL system, only one pump in required for the 'flood cycle' and gravity takes care of the 'drain' cycle. Simple to set up and use and extremely productive.
The number of 'flood & drain' cycles can be modified and tailored to specific plant requirements and seasonal temperature variations. This is energy saving as the pump is used for only about 1 hour per day allowing the roots to absorb a huge amount of oxygen.
15 mm pipe is used preventing dripper feed blockages common with IWS systems, and the components used are of the highest quality. The system is incredibly resilient. Once plants are established, even a pump failure lasting for a whole week would not stop them thriving.
Perhaps the biggest advantage for many people is that the plants are grown at waste height, so there is no bending, no slugs/snails and usually no problems with pets!
